Despite the accelerated rollout of the vaccine in several nations, caution needs to be maintained against the coronavirus disease. Part of this, is knowing if or when you have contracted the disease or not. Knowing and noticing symptoms of COVID-19 can help in this regard.
Though the typical symptoms of the disease include dry cough, fever and chills, some other symptoms have also been reported by people who have been infected with the disease. Several of them are associated with diet and stomach issues. Here are some of these food-related symptoms of COVID-19 as reported by patients.
Loss of smell and taste
The marquee symptom of COVID-19 – loss of smell and taste has been the most commonly reported symptom of the disease. This symptom exhibits between two to 14 days after exposure to coronavirus.
The symptom does not cause any physical pain or discomfort to the patient but it persists for long and has no known medicine or cure for now. The patients experiencing this symptom, hence, can be psychologically bothered by it.

COVID-19 is known to cause gastrointestinal symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea and stomach ache. A review mentioned in a report by TOI noted that 1 in every 5 COVID-19 patients reported these symptoms across three Chinese hospitals.
On the other hand, COVID-19 is known to spread through faecal transmission. This means that even though the symptoms might not necessarily be because of COVID-19, it is best that those displaying these symptoms use a separate washroom until they get tested.
Loss of appetite
The report cites another Chinese study that claimed over 80% of COVID+ patients lost their appetite days after being infected. Such loss of appetite is common with viral infections.
In the case of COVID-19, the loss of appetite can take an even worse turn, as those infected tend to lose their sense of smell and taste, hence impacting their habits.
Other Than Fever, COVID-19 Patients Experienced These Food Related Symptoms After Infection
Nausea is not a common symptom of COVID-19 but it is displayed by some who have been infected. Patients have complained of nausea a couple of days prior to developing a fever. In some cases, it might be the only visible symptom of the disease.
Hence those experiencing any such symptom, who know that they have been exposed to the virus recently should get themselves tested for COVID-19.
A sore throat is a very common symptom of several discomforts that might be caused to the body by allergies or diseases. COVID-19 also comes in this list and is known to cause sore throat in some cases.
Just as nausea, sore threat hence can act as an indicator of COVID-19 and those experiencing it should keep this in mind when trying to find the probable cause.
